This week’s interrogation is with Connor Davies of Pwll-Y-Pant fame! Take it away, Connor!
Why coding?
At first, coding was a means of making games! I liked to draw mazes and puzzles for friends at school, and I made little adventures on Microsoft Excel, and point-and-click games with Powerpoint. Coding was a natural jump from there! I started with a program called Game Maker, and coded games that were new takes on classics like Space Invaders! I picked up some Java at university. Then putting together a website required that I learn some HTML, CSS and Javascript. And now I’m using Ruby on Rails to work on the web app!

Besides coding, what else interests you?
As you might already have gathered, games. I’m a Nintendo fan, and have been as long as I can remember. As soon as my hands could get around the controllers, I commandeered my dad’s SNES, and I haven’t looked back since! I also practise and teach Tae Kwon Do, a Korean martial art, with the whole family. Four out of five of us (including yours truly) are blackbelts!
What are you working on right now?
Right now, I’m working on making myself sound interesting for this post! :P Chris and I have been putting together an open demo for Noddlepod.
Tea or coffee?
I drink so much tea that I have two named teapots. (Fred and George!)
Favourite vegetable?
Nonsense question! (My least hated vegetable is probably broccoli.)
Mac or PC?
So conflicted!
I started using a Mac upon joining team Noddlepod, and at first I felt a little bit like I’d sold my soul to the devil! I’ve always spoken out against Apple “eschewing” open source ideology - and requiring special cables, chargers, what-have-you for everything. But! The magic trackpad gestures are lovely. Scrolling in background windows makes a lot of sense. Installing software is really straightforward. (And Windows 8 was a mess…)
Pass! Next question?
Favourite TV show?
Difficult to say. I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I’ve started Daredevil on Netflix recently and keep meaning to make time to watch more! It’s based on the Marvel comic book character, but is a refreshing departure from the typical Marvel cinematic experience - it’s more grounded; grittier.
Favourite movie?
Pan’s Labyrinth (El laberinto del fauno). Guillermo del Toro is a fantastic director, and Pan is beautifully dark. I watched it first in Spanish class at school. I was captivated, and went on to write an essay about it for my A level coursework!
