Filter failure is not acceptable, by Harold Jarche

Ensuring employees find the right information leads to sharing better information.

In the digital age, there is a plethora of information everywhere on the internet, but how much of it can you trust? It’s difficult to ensure that sharing knowledge is accurate when we live in a world where phrases such as ‘Fake news’ and ‘Click bait’ are the norm.

It is easy to share digital information and for everyone to share information quickly. But in a learning environment, for a team to accurately share information, filter failure isn’t acceptable.

It is true that as always, knowledge is power, but the wrong knowledge, even information that is only slightly inaccurate can be hugely detrimental to growth and your team.

This is why filtering information to ensure its validity and accuracy is absolutely vital and how information sharing can play a huge part in this process.

For any team dependent on knowledge, it is important to make sure that the knowledge shared is accurate; the best way in which to do this is by:

1.Increased structure

2.Ensuring that accurate information is available

3.Building on the collective knowledge of the team

Increased structure

The structure of how your team works is important here, by making sure that those who receive implicit knowledge from the outside world informs the explicit knowledge shared throughout your team.

Accurate information

By ensuring that accurate information is available is by knowing the difference between explicit knowledge and implicit knowledge.

Explicit knowledge is made up of algorithmic search and is then shared in edited and published documents. Implicit knowledge is built from questions and conversations and then shared as self-published narration.

Build on the collective knowledge

Through accurately checking information and sources, you would be able to make sure that your team is able to find the right information that leads to them being able to share the best information. This will then lead everyone to take informed action, based on the knowledge that has been shared.

By using this simple method, you would be able to make sure that filter failure is never an option and your team is always making the best decisions on the most accurate information.
